The Long Haul – How do I take part?

There are 3 ways in which you can take part in The Long Haul:

Spectator – Anyone can follow the cart and cheer it along.  There are 3 Sections where Families are encouraged to walk with The Long Haul:

  • Section 1 – between 0830-1230 on Saturday 12th July. Along the sea front between Sandbanks and Hengistbury Head.  See Legs 1-7.  Meet at Spectator Points 1, 2 or 3.
  • Section 5 – between 1130-1300 on Sunday 13th July.  Picnic in Southampton Common.  Meet near the Cowherds pub at Spectator Points 10.  See Leg 26.
  • Section 7 – between 1600-1800 on Sunday 13th July.  This is the final section from South Winchester Park and Ride to Dean Park.  It takes in the cycle route to Winchester, we meet the Mayor in The Broadway and then on up to Dean Park to be welcomed by our local MP Steve Brine.  Join us at Spectator Points 11 or 12.  See Legs 31-32

Join these sections at one of the Spectator Points (Red) along the route. Spectators may also meet at other Spectator Points (Black) and cheer the cart on as it makes its 60-mile journey to Winchester.  See here for a general overview of these sections.  Or here for a detailed view of all Spectator Points (Red and Black)

Support – There is a lot of support required on the day as well as before hand.  We have need of a few more volunteers to help with a variety of roles. If you would like to support on any of the sections, please schedule yourself via this Doodle link. Add a comment to say what you’d like to do to support.

Cart Team – The people pulling the cart will take it in turns.  A core team of adults will accompany the cart all the way.  Other adults can join in on different sections.  Please join at one of the Spectator Points.

If you’d like to help out and pull the cart, add your name to the Doodle schedule. For the whole route, see The Long Haul Route
