Cubs

The 1st Winchester Scout Group has two Cub Packs, The Celts and The Vikings, and both packs run similar programmes designed to meet the aims of the Scout Association, although not always in the same order, as recommended by the scouting movement.  Both packs do their camps and day trips together as well and at the core of our programme lies the Cub Scout Law and Promise.

The Cub Scout Promise

I promise that I will do my best
To do my Duty to God and to the Queen
To help other people
and to keep the Cub Scout Law

The Cub Scout Law

Cub Scouts always do their best
Think of others before themselves
And do a good turn every day.

If cubs have trouble remembering the whole promise and law, they might try remembering the words in bold as prompts for the whole thing.

There is a very good description of what Cubs get up to on the national Scout Web Site which is worth a visit.

By tradition, Cub Scouting has adopted many ideas from Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book”.  Indeed until 1967 the section were known as Wolf Cubs.  Some of these ideas are still adopted by the Cubs section today which explains the name given to leaders: Akela, Baloo and Bagheera etc.
