Tickets are now available for our next exciting fundraising event, the Littleton Show After Party, to be held in the marquee at the Littleton Show, on the evening of Saturday September 7th, from 7.45pm to midnight. Tickets are £15 each, with discounts for early bird table bookings for eight to ten people available until the end of July. We’ll have welcome drinks, dinner, entertainment, an auction, raffle and a cash bar.

We need to raise extra funds this year, because sadly Little 1s, our resident pre-school at 1st Place, will be closing at the end of the summer term. So please do come along, and bring your friends for a great night out, while helping to raise the funds needed to keep Winchester’s most successful scout group in good financial health!

AGM will be on September 28th

Due to a clash with the Hat Fair we have decided not to run our planned Family Fun Day and AGM on July 6th. The AGM will now be held at another social event on September 28th – more details will follow soon.

Please help! New leaders and volunteers needed

Everything the 1st Winchester Group does depends on our volunteers. Many of you already do a lot to help, but we are still looking for some more new volunteers. In particular, we are looking for Beaver leaders on Monday evenings (Normans), Cubs leaders on Tuesdays; and Scouts on Thursday evenings (Greeks). We are also still looking for a new Assistant Group Scout Leader, for some new Executive Committee members and an Active Support Unit lead. We also always need Occasional Helpers at beavers, cubs and scouts: a little bit of help can go a very long way!

Little 1’s rated OUTSTANDING – spread the word!

Little 1’s Pre-School at 1st Place has been rated as OUTSTANDING by Ofsted this week.  This is excellent as this sort of news helps improve the profile of a great pre-school that is hidden off the beaten track. 1st Winchester Scouts directly benefit from the rent of the pre-school as it helps off-set our loan re-payments. We have a loan with the Scout Association as part of our building re-development in 2014. Please spread the word about the great service the pre-school provides!

We have a new GSL – but we still need more help!

We are delighted to announce that Mike Wilson is our new Group Scout Leader (GSL)! Mike is a very experienced Scout leader who has been in charge of the Greeks (Thursday evening scouts) for many years. Mark Weston-Smith has now taken over as the new leader of the Greeks, but that means we need another new leader to help on Thursday evenings. If you’d like to help, or to find out a bit more about what would be involved, please contact Dave Kesby, Mike or Mark.

We’re also very pleased to say that Gill Bowyer is now our Group Admin Assistant, a new role created to assist the GSL and to take control of important administrative tasks including DBS processing. But we are also still looking for a new Assistant GSL to help both Mike and Gill with their duties. Again, if you’re interested, please do get in touch.

Scouts support Boaz Project Family Fun Day

On Saturday 30th September 1st Winchester Scouts travelled to the Boaz Project Hampshire to help with the Billy Boaz Family Fun Day. We helped to set up stalls and to serve refreshments. We were also asked to run an outdoor garden games section, which included chess, archery and a more unusual game called Cub.

It was great fun and lovely to see all the participants taking part in the sponsored walk and run. We were all given a medal at the end of the day as a thank-you for our help.

Annual Reports and AGM

1st Winchester Scout AGM is on the 14th July at 8pm at 1st Place.  It will be a quick an minimalist AGM which will cover only the key requirements under the governance process of the Scout Association.  However, it makes it no less important for parents and leaders to pay attention to our reports and ensure that we in the Executive Committee are doing our job to help run the Group successfully.  The following documents will be presented for agreement at the AGM.  Questions can be raised before or during the AGM.
